I have a great idea. I am going to become the GM of a baseball team and then tear into a player that has nothing to do with my team. That's an even better idea when that player is coming into town in less than a week. I of course am speaking of J.P. Ricciardi's rant on Adam Dunn. Riccardi said, "Do you know the guy doesn’t really like baseball that much? Do you know the guy doesn’t have a passion to play the game that much? How much do you know about the player?" Apparently, Riccardi doesn't know much about Dunn either. Sure he is slow to the ball some times in the outfield and strikes out a lot but that has nothing to do with a player's passion. Dunn did return fire and made the situation worth writing about when he said, "I guess I can cross one team off my list." He later made the comment of the year, "I guess I won't have to change my dollars into Loonies and Toonies."
On a final and separate note I think this team is going to bust out offensively on the road trip. They are absolutely due. On the home stand, the Reds hit .105 with runners in scoring position! That is awful and has to change. Look for more lineup changes and (cross your fingers) Daryl Thompson will be brought up to pitch against the Yankees on Saturday. He faced the middle of the Yank's regular lineup in spring ball and went 1-2-3 twice. The good news is that it is in Yankee Stadium so we don't have to hear Hank Steinbrenner wine about his pitchers running the bases again.
